Andy & Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure
by
Andrew J. Shoup

by Jordan Rebecca Shavers (aged 12)
(Dayton, Ohio)

This book is my favorite because it's all about apples which are my favorite fruit, I mean what 12 year old doesn't like apples or adventures which is what this book is all about.

I was in 3rd grade and they gave the book out to my whole class I fell in love with it. It's the kind of book you can read it over and over again and it wouldn't be a bother because it's that kind of book.

Before my mom started working she read it to me every night, mostly because it was the book I have always asked for. It's about friendship and doing the right thing , and of course ... apples.

Two guys named Andy and Elmer go on a adventure and started a business. On the way Andy gets a couple of visits from his conscience telling him the right and wrong things to do.

In this book Andy and Elmer make people happy, make a good friendship, and carry on the business together.

This book is also great because it's not just for kids, it's for grownups who love to cook too. In the back on the last page it has a recipe of someones apple dumplings. Sorry can't tell you whose, but I can tell you me and my Mom loved making it. It was messy, but fun, flour going everywhere smelling cinnamon. It was the best time I ever had.

As soon as they came out the oven I was ready to dig in, but you have to wait 5 minutes. When it happened though . . . let's just say vanilla ice-cream was my favorite to eat apple dumplings with. It might have gotten on my shirt but it was worth it.

Andy & Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure is my favorite book, and will be yours too. I just can't wait till you read it.

Apple Dumpling Adventure & The Four Way Test
by: Annie Desantis

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for a fantastic review - I'm impressed!

Just a little bit about Andy & Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure for my readers:

The story and activities were developed by the Rotary Club of Fairborn as a literary project to help teach the Four Way Test.

What's the Four Way Test? Developed by Rotarian, Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 as a business model his Four Way Test, is a set of criteria for ethical sales, production, advertising and relationships.

Rotary International adopted The Four Way Test in 1943 as a set of standard to aspire to.

Applying the Four Way Test:

Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Sounds like a pretty good basis for living to me!

You can order copies of the book or any of the resources that go with it at AndyandElmer.com. The proceeds of course go to Rotary.

Thank you Jordan - you've set the standard high!

Thanks for the Review!

Hey Jordan,

I really liked your review of "Andy & Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure". Great job. Of course, I'm a little biased toward it because my name is Andrew Shoup and I'm the author and Illustrator of "Andy & Elmer".

But I must say that I'm glad you liked it so much. And that you and your Mom made apple dumplings from the recipe. The recipe, by the way, actually comes from my Mom. Although, it was never really written down. I actually had to make apple dumplings, myself, and write down as I went along, so I could put the recipe in the book.

It was a fun book to write and illustrate. And it's been great fun to work with the Rotary Club of Fairborn on the project and getting it into schools across the U.S. and beyond.

Anyway, to show my appreciation, Jordan, I'd like to send you an autographed copy of another book called "Toko of Coco Oko". I hope you'll like it. I've already emailed Annie, and she's going to send you an email with my contact info.

Hope to hear from you. :-)

Click N Kids would have to be one of my subscribers most popular programs, and from what they say, it is mostly because the kids have fun while they are learning. In fact they don't even realize they are learning! Click N kids are using the Looney Tune Characters now in their phonics program, which of course kids just love.
