Parents Review Board Games For Kids

We'd love your opinion too, what do you think is a great educational toy and game? We have some board games for kids reviewed below - what do you think? Are these the best?

What games do you play in your family?

Kelsey Reviews The Game Of Life

The Game of Life is a great game for kids, especially older kids to play. The Life Cards teach the kids that helping others and doing the right thing is more important than money; because at the end of the game, the life cards are worth more than the money, therefore worth more to the kids.

It also teaches kids how to make good choices, as well as consequences when bad choices are made. The game has both rewards for good choices and prices that are paid for bad choices.

The game also teaches kids how to handle money. They have to decide what they want to spend their money on, and if they spend it on the wrong thing, then they go into debt.

The last thing that Life teaches kids is deciding what to do when two possible paths could be taken. There are places in the game where kids could go one of two ways, they have to decide which will be better in the long run and how which they can get the most out of.

Playful Patterns

Playful Patterns - A Game For All Ages

Playful Patterns - A Game For All Ages

Natasha Reviews Playful Patterns

I bought this toy as a holiday gift for my niece. She loved it and shared it with her cousins. The game came with 132 foam shapes in geometric patterns; triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, etc, and 20 cards with 34 designs. You use the shapes to match the design.

The toy is supposed to develop spatial and geometric understanding for Pre-math and Pre-reading skills and thinking skills.

The children range in age from 4-11 and they all enjoyed the different patterns. The youngest played with the easiest pattern which matches each shape on the card.

The older kids liked the open-ended cards that allowed you to choose the colors and shapes to make the design. I enjoyed watching them play with it and was glad I bought it. After most of the older kids were tired of playing with it, the younger kids just played by themselves.

An Educational Toy That Spans Age-groups

Thanks for a great review Natasha.

It's wonderful when a good educational toy can be played by a wide age range of children. Older children will often adapt or modify a game or toy to make it more interesting or challenging.

Sounds like you made a good choice!

Apple to Apple

Sue Reviews Apples To Apples

Apples to Apples is a game of comparing and matching. My children learn new words and their meanings while having fun.

One child is the leader, and the other children have to decide which word in their hand will match best. The words are often funny or silly, so lots of giggles with this one.

It is also a great game to play at children's parties, and you can get versions of the game for older children.

Karla Reviews Monopoly

I really like this board game for kids because Monopoly teaches them how to invest their money or just to know not too spend it all in one place!

Some kids buy up everything, and others are more cautious.

Editor's note:
There are now lots of different versions of Monopoly, from Junior Monopoly through to more topical Monopoly sets such as Cities. There is a Nitendo Monopoly, a Planet Earth Monopoly, and even banking Monopoly!

A far cry from when we were kids and the there was only the traditional Monopoly Game based on central London.

Amir Reviews Chess

I think Chess is the best educational game because can generate children's intelligence.

editor's note:
Games like Chess are wonderful for a child's developing brain. Learning to think ahead, plan strategy, imagine different outcomes are high level brain functions. And they don't just appear, they actually have to grow and develop neural pathways in the brain.

That is why educational toys such as chess, are excellent developmental games for children, and indeed adults. Studies have shown regular chess players are less likely to get Alzheimer's or dementia, so there are benefits for parent's playing chess with their kids too!

Amazon have links to all kinds of versions of chess sets, even including a Harry Potter version! Perhaps having a modern twist to an old game will encourage children to be interested in this age old strategy game.

Click N Kids would have to be one of my subscribers most popular programs, and from what they say, it is mostly because the kids have fun while they are learning. In fact they don't even realize they are learning! Click N kids are using the Looney Tune Characters now in their phonics program, which of course kids just love.
