LeapFrog Crammer

Parent Coach Annie Desantis reviews LeapFrog Crammer and suggests the best deals for buying learning games for teenagers. In the bottom right hand corner you will find links to other educational toy reviews.

Leapfrog extended the textbook based study aid I-Quest (which is still available), and introduced a fully functional digital music player into Crammer. A flash card learning system based on leading textbooks, this hand held learning device is designed for 8 year - 14 year olds. (I Quest starts at 10 years). It comes preloaded with 16,000 questions and kids can design and upload their own flash cards.

Features:

  • Prepare and revise for tests
  • Quizzes
  • Add custom made questions and Flash cards
  • 2 Games
  • Upload hours of Music
  • Statistics

Crammer is part of LeapFrog's Online Learning Path, so kids can connect free, and get more functionality by creating their own questions and flash cards, or downloading a huge range of additional topics such as history, geography or topics. The Learning Path can also make suggestions for ways to enhance learning. Parents can also track their child's progress - but I am not sure if many kids will welcome that aspect!

LeapFrog try to encourage Parents to interact with their kids by being informed, but I think parents need to be very careful not to get into the Policeman Mode. You want to be having conversations about how you can support them, rather than cracking the whip and checking up on them. Building a relationship based on trust and good communication, is far more important than checking up behind their back. However if it is something you look at together and talk about the options or recommendations, then it can be a very useful tool.

The system comes preloaded with these Quizzes and Flash Card Study Tools.

Grades Three - Eight Quizzes

  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Language Arts

Grades Three - Four Flash Cards

  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Language Arts

I suspect the biggest appeal as a learning game for teenagers, is the MP3 player, although lots of kids already have an I-pod. Having it integrated into their study aid, means they can chill out to their favorite music prior to a test, or have music playing as they revise. Music changes brainwaves, so absorbing information can be enhanced. They would get a much better result if they used Baroque Music, but I think that would be unlikely!

How To Get The Best Deals For LeapFrog-Crammer

You can usually get a much better deal via Auction - either new or used, and buying pre-loved LeapFrog products is an excellent way to go. I recommend Ebay as the most secure and extensive online Auctions. Click this link to find our more about buying Leapfrog toys via secure online Auctions and how easy it is to grab a bargain.
