Law of Attraction Schools

Hi Annie,

I'm a Kindergarten teacher who is forming a school that draws very much from the Law of Attraction. Do you know of any schools at all that are based on the law of attraction?

Thanks,

Schools using Law of Attraction ideals
by: Annie Desantis

Hi,

What a wonderful project to undertake, I would be most interested to hear how it develops! I am not sure if you were wanting to set up a pre-school(as a Kindergarten teacher) or intend developing a school for school age children, but here are a few resources I know of. I am sure there are lots more out there, and hopefully some of our readers will comment and pass on more resources.

One best schools I know of is the Sudbury Valley School in Massachusetts

And there have been a number of other schools based on this model around the world, their site has a link page to other schools:

In the UK there is the Summerhill School, based on a free play/democratic model, founded in 1921 and still controversal today!

The other model you may be interested in is the Waldorf Schools based on Rudolf Steiner's teachings, who used more of a spiritual (not religious), creative, artistic approach to education.

The unschooling model is also very much in keeping with Law of Attraction, based on the idea of no set curriculum, but following the energy and interest of the children. More often used in the home as homeschooling, but I can't see any reason why a school could not adopt a lot of the ideas if there were enough adults to children (1 adult to 5 children would be ideal!)

There is a page on our site with an over-view of Unschooling:

Books I would recommend of the top of my head, I am sure there are many more!

Anything by John Holt - the "father of Unschooling"

Teach Your Own: The John Holt Book of Homeschooling

Radical Unschooling - A Revolution Has Begun by Dayna Martin

The Unschooling Unmanual by Nanda Van Gestel, Jan Hunt, Daniel Quinn, and Rue Kream

Please pop back here and share your journey with us via the comments box, I am sure your explorations and ideas will be of great interest to our readers (and me!)

Best of luck,

montessori
by: Kirsten

This is such an interesting topic to me because we just choose my daughters elementary school this week. I personally found that Montessori was a really good fit for us for preschool. Which is interesting in itself because I originally thought Montessori was really strange. But after setting some strong intentions about schools, and then visiting several it was really a clear choice for preschool and elementary. I love how they trust kids to find their own way. I like the idea of a Sudbury school and there is one in our state, but the montessori is a better option for us. I was really excited to see some LOA influences at the elementary school we choose (and it is a public school!)

My two cents about starting a school would be set a powerful intention, get excited, and let your intuition be your guide!! happy creating!

Best, kirsten

Parents Setting Intention
by: Annie Desantis

Thanks for your comment Kirsten.

You are spot on about setting your intentions. Often as parents we focus on our concerns and forget to put out for what we do want. Well done for following your intuition and being open to possibilities.

I too looked at Montessori as a pre-school option, and really liked a lot of their ideas. But I was very fortunate in New Zealand in having the Playcentre Association - which is parent run, birth to school age pre-school education. The emphasis was on training parents in the principals of free play and child development.

Free Play fits perfectly with the Law of Attraction! All areas of play and activities are available to children all the time, and a high ratio of adults to children, meant lots of opportunities for kids to follow their energy.

However, I think if that had not been available to me, Montessori (for pre-school) would have been my next choice. I'm sure your little ones will have a ball. They have a head start on lots of children, in that their Mom is well aware of consciously creating a wonderful environment for them to grow, learn and play in. Good on you!

Wishing you JOY,

Annie Desantis
