A Letter To My Daughter
A Letter To My Son

Writing a Letter to my Daughter or a Letter to My Son, is a lovely way of putting your vision and intention for your child out in the world.

I often get the parents I work with to write a letter to my daughter or a letter to my son, as a way of setting an intention for our journey as parents. We often go into parenting without a clear idea of what are the most important values for us as parents. Parenting is a lot about trial and error, and no two children are the same. By focusing on the bigger picture of what our dreams are for our children we are more likely bring ourselves back to what is important.

A Collage Letter to My Daughter I've created this space here for parents to share their letters to a son or daughter because we can all contribute to creating a clear bright vision for our children's future. Write or read a letter to my children on our site (Submission form below)

Other Reader's Letters are below the Submission form, so read and comment if you wish.

A Letter To My Children

What sort of things would your write in your letter to your daughter or son? What is your dream for your child? What is your vision for your children? What are the values you want them to grow up with? What are the pearls of wisdom you want them to carry with them?

Now writing a letter like this doesn't mean you are turning your child into a little replica of what you want. It is more about setting an intention for your child to fulfill their potential, to reach for their dreams and be the best they can be. Your child will have their own journey, but as a parent you have a huge influence in their lives. Having a vision for them means you don't always get bogged down in the nitty gritty of every day life - you can turn your attention to what you want your child to take with them in this journey of life.

Imagine giving your daughter the letter you wrote to her, on her 18th birthday? Or what a lovely thing to read to her every birthday.

General Letter to my Children

You may want to write a collective letter to my children, rather than an individual letter to your daughter or son, so of course any of the ideas above are applicable. Just write from the heart, there is no right or wrong way. I have one Mom who instead of a letter to her daughter is keeping a journal for her, and updates it when ever she is inspired, when her daughter reaches milestones, or on her birthday. She plans to give it to her when she leaves home.

Word Heart As your children grow up, you also will be growing and learning, and you may want to update your letter. I often find myself being inspired by someone and thinking, Yes, this is something I want to tell my children. You can come back and add to your letter by commenting - that way you are keeping it growing and alive.

I'm really looking forward to reading your letters to your children. I find them incredibly moving and inspiring. You can also comment on letters other parents have written for their children. If you are touched or inspired by a letter to my daughter or a letter to my son, then let our Moms and Dads know. We can all add loving energy to the visions of other parents, and collectively create an inspirational community for parents. Check back and read any new additions - the links are at the bottom. Sometimes I feature a letter to my daughter/son in my Newsletter so don't forget to subscribe!

We love a photo too! Maybe a photo of your children, or if you have something special you want to show us that would be lovely. After you submit your story, I do check them and maybe edit a little for good punctuation etc, but I do NOT change your content.

Usually your page will be uploaded within 48 hours and if you have included a contact email address you will be notified when it is loaded.
