Louise Hay

I remember reading Louise Hay's Heal Your Body icon written in the '70s, (boy that shows my age!) and loving it and then later You Can Heal Your Life in the early 80's. In Australia we call her the the Grandmother of self help and the media has even dubbed her the closest thing to a living saint!

Having just put up two pages teaching my readers how to use affirmations in a powerful way, I had to pay tribute to one my early inspirational teachers.

Positive Affirmations: Making Them MORE Powerful.

Louise L Hay has devoted her life to teaching others about conscious creation. She had a traumatic childhood, having been raped at only five years old, and suffering an abusive upbringing. In later years she was diagnosed with cancer, and this was the real test in putting what she had learnt and taught into practice for herself.

Louise knew that anger, resentment and rage has an impact on the body and she focused her attention on loving and healing herself with the help of alternative treatments, affirmations, visualizations and clearing techniques. After six months, without surgery or conventional medical treatments, there was no longer any trace of cancer in her body!

Louise Hay is a beautiful example of her own work, an inspiration to many over years through her books, running workshops and teaching others how to apply her principles.

Louise is now focusing on inspiring Elders in our community, and valuing the wisdom of the older generation. In native cultures, aging is valued and revered, in the west we strive to do everything to prevent aging and our elderly folk are largely invisible.

Louise L Hay Books
(published by Hay House)

Hay House Publications, publishes many wonderful inspirational books (I'd be really happy to have all of them in my library!) Below are brief reviews of several of Louise Hay's inspiring books.

You Can Heal Your Life

In this book Louise talks about how our beliefs and ideas about ourselves are often behind our health issues and emotional problems.

Heal Your life has recently been made into a movie which you can purchase from Hay House.

I haven't yet seen it, but it is on my wish list!

The AIDS Book: Creating a Positive Approach

Many People don't know Louise Hay has worked extensively with People living with AIDS. She started Hayrides, a series of workshops and during that time she wrote The AIDS Book, based on her experiences with this powerful group. She has also set up a Charitable Fund to support People living with AIDS and other challenges.

I Think, I Am!
written with Kristina Tracy and illustrated by Manuela Schwarz.

Louise Hay wrote this children's book because she always believed that children would have a happier and more rewarding life if they learned the power of their thoughts.

I Think, I Am icon is beautifully illustrated by Manuela Schwarz, with the text and pictures teaching children how to turn negative thoughts into positive affirmations.

Louise suggests you practice with your child, and recommends saying affirmations in front of a mirror as a powerful tool. A mirror is very powerful because it connects YOU to the words you are saying.

In addition to I Think, I Am icon, there are some other wonderful inspiring books for children or parents on the Hay House site, that you can check out by clicking the banner below.

You even get a 20-30% discount buying directly from them!

Louise Hay inspired affirmation processes.
Do they work? I've used affirmations with myself and my clients for years, but they are only effective if you set them up correctly.

I treat myself as if I am someone who is deeply loved.
All kinds of events come and go; yet, through it all, my love for myself is constant.
This is not being vain or conceited. People who are vain or conceited have a lot of self-hatred covered over by a layer of "I'm better than you."
Self-love is simply appreciating the miracle of my own being.
When I really love myself, I cannot hurt myself, and I cannot hurt another person.
To me, the answer to world peace is unconditional love. It begins with self- acceptance and self-love.
I no longer wait to be perfect in order to love myself.
I accept myself exactly as I am, right here and now

Power Thought Cards For Teens iconare an inspiring gift for a teenager. I've used these in workshops, or as a teaching resource for teenagers. Have each teen hold the cards in their hands, shuffle them and ask for the best card to come to them.
You can either give the card away to each teen, or let them choose a card that calls to them, and use it as a discussion point.
