Paper Plate Wall Hanging

by Cindy Merrill
(Owls Head NY USA)

My 6 year old granddaughter never gets tired of making these:

You will need:

  • One dessert size paper plate

  • Enough paper, colored foil or fabric to completely cover plate back and front

  • An assortment of yarns or pretty ribbons

  • 1 hole puncher

  • Superglue

If the material has a design, center it in the middle of plate. It can be on either side, but little Julia prefers the back because plate "hangs up" better. Be sure there's about an inch of leftover material all the way around. I superglue the edges of this under the rim.

Then Julia picks out the ribbon or yarn colors she wants and she holds the plate steady while I punch out two holes at the top and two holes at bottom. She then threads in her ribbon or yarn, and ties a bow.

Now it's ready to hang up!

Suitable for almost any occasion: Example, St Patrick's Day: Use green materials & green ribbons.

Editor's Note
Super Glue is not a safe glue for young children to use, and clearly Cindy took care of this by doing that part herself.

An alternative would be to use PVA, and then the child can do the gluing too. You may need to peg or paper clip down the edges to hold them until it is dry, as the grip will not be ask quick as Super Glue.

Thanks Cindy!

Hi Cindy,

Lovely idea, I would love to pop up a photo if you have one? You can email it to me and I'll pop it up on your submission:

There are lots of activites involving paper plates, such as mask making or as a base for a papier mache plate.

Thanks for your submission!

Click N Kids would have to be one of my subscribers most popular programs, and from what they say, it is mostly because the kids have fun while they are learning. In fact they don't even realize they are learning! Click N kids are using the Looney Tune Characters now in their phonics program, which of course kids just love.
