Most ANY Toy Or Game Is The Best

by Diane

Parents And Quality Attention Is Best

Most ANY game or toy can be long as YOU play it WITH your child.

It's not about electronic abilities or cost of a toy ~ what makes it valuable is the amount of time put in it WITH your child and how you use that time to make it a learning experience.

Something as simple as a deck of cards can help children learn numbers and shapes, and even a box of dominoes can show a young child how to put things in a sequence. Reading books to a child is a wonderful "educational toy" because she can ask questions as you read and it becomes first-hand learning.

Playing simple board games with a young child is a valuable learning experience of teaching the importance of taking turns and of playing fair.

Making houses out of old boxes can be an educational toy! My 3-year old granddaughter loves playing Bingo and it's amazing how well she's learned her numbers and how they need to be in a row and under a specific letter.

There are wonderful toys and games out there and I am all for ANYTHING that helps a child learn, but not all parents have the money for games and toys that cost a small fortune. Sharing your time with your child as he or she plays any game is to me,the best education you can give them.

Annie's Comments

You are absolutely right - no amount of fancy toys or games take the place of parents or caregivers interacting with children.

There are so many learning experiences all around us. What is important is sharing time for the child to experience, ask questions, create and figure things out.

Kids can learn so much from just simple everyday activities, such as cooking. Learning about nutrition, measuring, or science, as well as learning a life skill.

For years my son only asked for tape for a present and he collected boxes, empty cartons, tubes, and he used sticks and leaves and created the most wonderful creations. Now he is a father, his little girl always has a supply of cardboard boxes!

A trip to the beach can open up a world of learning, finding creatures, learning about their life cycle, building sand-castles, making moats.

Parents get almost brainwashed by advertisements into thinking they have to get the next best toy for their child, when the gift of time is by far the best present of all.

Thanks for your review, your children and grandchildren are lucky to have you!

Oh! Teachers are the most friendly toy for a child! Children spend half of their time in schools, studying, playing, doing naughty things etc.

From childhood to becoming an adult, teachers always used to stay with their students. For teachers whether their student is 4 years or 40 years they would always be their student only.

A teacher is a mother for their student, after the Mother, the Teacher is the one who teaches children attitudes, manners, knowledge, and is loving and friendly.

Thus, I truly believe the best educational toy would be a Teacher. I know it is, think in your heart and I know you will get the same answer.

Teachers And Parents Are Better Than Toys!

Hi Deepanwita,

I agree with you, teachers can be the best educational toys! I say the same thing about parents, giving a child quality attention and helping them to learn about their world is worth far more than any toy.

There is also a cultural difference in how you see the role of a Teacher. In most western countries, children get a different teacher each year of school, and more often than not the relationship is not continued. There are some exceptions - the Steiner School System tends to build long term relationships with the child staying with the same teacher right through school.

The other thing I have noticed that is culturally different, is the amount of respect and value placed on teachers. My husband is a teacher, and here in the west, children do not hold the same kind of respect or value the relationship with their teachers. My sister-in-law is Vietnamese, and I know they continue to visit their teachers even when they are adults, and hold them in high regard.

Really the important factor, is the relationship. And the same thing applies with a great educational toy - more often than not the important aspect of the learning, is the adult that encourages, extends and helps a child to master a toy or game.

Click N Kids would have to be one of my subscribers most popular programs, and from what they say, it is mostly because the kids have fun while they are learning. In fact they don't even realize they are learning! Click N kids are using the Looney Tune Characters now in their phonics program, which of course kids just love.
