Tapping Worked On Fear Of The Dark

by Robert

Just recently I did help my son getting him free from fear of the dark using EFT.

Everyone around me saying, let him be afraid of the dark, it will go away when he gets older. Yet, after he did tapping to set him free of the fear, the other day he was laughing to the fear of the darkness by playing in the dark.

I have one other issue I would like to share with You. Namely, as school year has started, only after month or so, my son has started producing sounds as if he would like to clean his throat (he would do that in the past, but I noticed that after school year, he would stop doing that). But nothing is there, and he does it more frequently when playing some tense PC game.

Is there effective way to solve this issue in easy and practical way, or do you have to find the underlying problem or cause to solve physical manifestation?

In your kids book about tapping there is nothing specific about how to solve something like that. I would like to help him, since my wife keeps telling him to stop doing that, which could only make things worse.

Using EFT With Kids To Clear A Physical Issue

Hi Robert,
Great to hear your have found EFT helpful with your son's fear of the dark. It is impossible with the manual to cover all scenarios that can be useful with EFT - which was why I set up this forum to be able to give additional ideas and scripts.

RE your son's throat clearing - it does seem to be stress related and as you are thinking, it is not such a good idea to just put pressure on him to stop doing it, as that just creates more stress. It is not a conscious behavior, it is a habit he is most likely not aware of.

And yes, tapping on it will be really effective.

Do We Need To Know The Underlying Cause For EFT To Work?

You don't necessarily need to know what the cause of something is to be able to clear it. Sometimes that does short cut it, and sometimes you do need to get underneath an issue to be able to clear something deep seated. But sometimes, particularly with kids, they have no idea what started it, or if there was even one event or trauma that set it up. In your son's case, it is likely to be stress related in general, rather than an actual event.

So you can just tap on the sound to start off with - but firstly make sure it is something he WANTS to stop doing. You can add in lots of statements like:

"Even though I don't know why I keep clearing my throat, I'm doing really well"

"Even though I seem to have a habit of clearing my throat, I'm a cool kid and I love ME"

Then you can also build in some statements about bringing out the underlying cause:

"What if I figured out why I cough and clear my throat?"

"Maybe my throat noise is telling me something, what might that be?"

"Maybe I can listen to my fears without having to clear my throat?"

Speaking Out

There may also be something he is scared of saying or that he finds hard to speak out about.

Issues with throats are often to do with not being able to speak up for our self, or feeling like I have to swallow down my words. And of course in school mostly kids are not allowed to talk, and their natural curiosity has to shut up while the teacher runs the show. Of course a class can't have 25 kids all talking at once, but there is often no room or encouragement for a child's natural questioning and thinking out loud as they figure things out. So he may well be learning to choke back his words and thoughts.

You can also tap in general about stress and anxiety - mostly those kinds of habits do start with stress of some kind - and you have already observed that he does it more during school terms.

In fact if he shows any resistance to tapping about the throat clearing noise itself, you can just head right into his anxious thoughts as more than likely the throat clearing will stop when he relaxes and feels better about handling stress.

So just tap on all the general stressful things about school, and get him to come up with a list of all the things he finds hard about school - or life in general. The more that comes from him, the more you will hit the nail on the head about what is underlying it.

Then when you have done a rounds of tapping using his statements, then turn them around to an affirmation or resource. You can start to alternate - the fear or anxiety statement, then an affirmation or two to anchor in some resources.

For example:
"I feel stupid if I can't do something"

"I am learning new things every day and I am doing really well"

"It's ok to make mistakes while I learn new things"

"I'm scared the teacher will tell me off if I talk in class"

"I am learning when the best time is to ask a question or give my ideas"

You are clearly pretty tuned in to your son, and you will get insights about some of the things he might be thinking or worrying about. Just gently make suggestions as you tap with him, remember you can't get it wrong with tapping, if you have not hit the nail on the head it won't do any harm, and all affirmations will help to anchor in good self esteem and confidence in master difficult situations.

Notice the statements he has the biggest response too, and do a few extra around that.

Tapping is a really good way to build in resources - even if you don't actually tap OUT any issue, it is great for kids to do the morning tap from the EFT for Kids manual - and you can modify that to include statements that are more specific for him, particularly around anxiety or stress.

Best of luck Robert - let us know how you go.

Happy Tapping!

Click N Kids would have to be one of my subscribers most popular programs, and from what they say, it is mostly because the kids have fun while they are learning. In fact they don't even realize they are learning! Click N kids are using the Looney Tune Characters now in their phonics program, which of course kids just love.
